Equine Colic Endorsement
The Equine Colic Endorsement reimburses reasonable and customary veterinary fees when your horse requires treatment for a new incident of colic. Coverage applies only to colic that first occurs during the policy period and is reported on time.
What’s Covered
- Veterinary treatment, medication, and surgery for colic
- Treatment for gastric ulcers confirmed by endoscopy
- Colic first occurring during the policy period
- Colic occurring within 90 days after expiration (for annual policies)
- Coverage up to the Colic Limit of Liability shown on your policy
Limits
- Deductible applies per separate colic incident
- Payment reduced if you own less than 100% of the horse
- Ulcer treatment limited to $2,500 per claim and $3,000 total per policy year
Not Covered
- Horses with prior colic history not disclosed and accepted
- Treatment unrelated to colic or routine care
- Colic caused by malicious injury, poisoning, or gross negligence
- Necropsy, humane destruction, disposal, travel, or emergency fees
- Horses under 30 days or over 20 years old
- Expenses incurred more than 30 days before notice
Requirements
- Immediate notice by telephone
- Veterinary report and itemized bills due within 60 days
- Full cooperation with claims investigation
- Coverage is excess over the Free Colic Surgery Endorsement and primary over other insurance
