Equine Accident & Illness Coverage

The Accident & Illness endorsement reimburses veterinary fees for treatment or diagnostic testing when your horse suffers a new illness, disease, or visible external accident or injury. This is broader than surgical-only coverage but does not cover lameness-related diagnostics or treatment except in very limited situations.

What’s Covered

  • Veterinary treatment (non-surgical) from a qualified veterinarian
  • Diagnostic testing related to a covered illness or external injury
  • Conditions starting during the policy period and reported immediately

Limits & Deductible

  • Reimburses up to the Accident & Illness Limit of Liability listed in your policy
  • Deductible applies to each unrelated accident, illness, or injury
  • Coverage extends up to 90 days after policy expiration for annual policies

Not Covered

The following are not eligible:

  • Pre-existing issues
  • Routine care or maintenance
  • Elective or cosmetic procedures
  • Alternative and non-traditional therapies
  • Dental care unless caused by external trauma
  • Hospital boarding at non-veterinary facilities
  • Racing-related accidents or injuries
  • Horses under 30 days or over 20 years
  • MRI, CT, nuclear scintigraphy
  • Farrier services
  • Any treatment for gastric or intestinal ulcers
  • All lameness diagnostics or treatment, except when due to:
    • Tick-borne illness
    • EPM
    • Laminitis
    • Lacerations

Important Conditions

  • Immediate notice of any illness or injury
  • Written veterinary report and all invoices must be submitted within 60 days
