Equine Free Colic Surgery Endorsement
This endorsement covers reasonable and customary veterinary fees for colic surgery when the horse undergoes a surgically invasive procedure under general anesthesia to treat colic. Coverage applies only when the incident first occurs during the policy period.
What’s Covered
- Veterinary fees for surgically invasive corrective procedures performed under general anesthesia to treat colic.
- Coverage applies when colic is first sustained during the policy period and reported immediately.
- Covers up to the lesser of:
- $5,000, or
- 50% of the mortality limit for the horse, or
- The proportional percentage tied to ownership interest.
What’s Not Covered
- Any colic condition or surgery occurring before the endorsement effective date.
- Colic caused by malicious or willful injury, poisoning, or negligence under the insured’s control.
- Expenses for necropsy or humane destruction unless required under the mortality form.
- Expenses for disposal, travel, transportation, or facility charges.
- Horses under 30 days old or over 20 years old.
- Any boarding charges from non-accredited facilities.
Important Requirements
- Immediate telephone notice of any colic surgery.
- Veterinary report describing diagnosis and treatment must be submitted within 60 days.
- All itemized bills must be provided within 60 days of surgery.
- Coverage is primary over any other insurance.
