Equine Surgical Coverage
The Equine Surgical endorsement provides reimbursement for reasonable and customary veterinary fees when your horse requires surgery under general anesthesia due to a new accident, illness, disease, injury, lameness condition, or physical disability. Coverage applies only to conditions that begin during the policy period and are reported promptly.
What’s Covered
- Surgical procedures performed by a qualified veterinarian
- Medical expenses directly related to the surgery
- Conditions first occurring or first showing symptoms during the policy period
- Post-surgical treatment that is part of the necessary care
- Gastric ulcer treatment (with diagnostic confirmation)
- Up to $2,500 per claim, max $4,000 per policy period
Limits & Deductible
- Coverage reimburses up to the Surgical Limit of Liability listed on your policy schedule
- A deductible applies to each unrelated surgical incident
- Coverage extends up to 90 days past policy expiration if the policy period is 365 days or more
Not Covered
- Pre-existing or undisclosed conditions
- Routine or preventative care
- Elective or cosmetic procedures (e.g., castration, neurectomy)
- Alternative therapies (chiropractic, acupuncture, massage, laser, hyperbaric, etc.)
- Dental work unless caused by a visible external injury
- Horses under 30 days or over 20 years old
- Racing-related injuries
Important Conditions
- Immediate notice of any surgery is required
- Written veterinary report and itemized invoices due within 60 days
- Coverage is excess over the Free Colic Surgery endorsement
