Overview
Major Medical and Medical Assistance coverages will reimburse you for reasonable and customary fees for covered treatments and surgical procedures, including post-operative care expenses, which are required or necessary as a result of an accident, injury, illness or disease that first occurs during the policy period.
These coverages are available for horses between the ages of 30 days and 20 years of age and are subject to a per claim deductible that varies based on the medical limit chosen. As long as the accident, injury, illness or disease first occurs and is reported during the policy period, covered treatments may be performed during the policy period and up to 120 days after the policy expiration date.
Major Medical and Medical Assistance coverages require a minimum mortality limit of $20,000. These coverages are not available to horses used for racing or eventing. They include the following sub-limits and deductibles:
- $7,500 Combined limit for covered lameness diagnostic and treatment.
- $1,000 for treatment of Gastric Ulcers (positive endoscopy required).
- $1,500 Deductible per claim.
$10,000 Major Medical:
- $5,000 Combined limit for covered lameness diagnostic and treatment.
- $7500 for treatment of Gastric Ulcers (positive endoscopy required).
- $1,000 Deductible per claim.
$7,500 Medical Assistance:
- $3,500 Combined limit for covered lameness diagnostic and treatment
- $400 for treatment of Gastric Ulcers (positive endoscopy required)
- $750 Deductible per claim.
Major Medical and Medical Assistance coverages may also be combined with the $10,000 Surgical and / or the $10,000 Colic Treatment & Surgery coverages also offered by Great American.
