Accident, Sickness & Disease Infertility Endorsement

This Accident, Sickness and Disease Infertility Endorsement adds separate coverage for a scheduled stallion under an Equine Mortality – Broad Form policy. It is designed to protect the insured’s value in a stallion if a covered event causes the stallion to become permanently unable to breed.

What’s Covered

The endorsement applies if, due to a covered accident/health event, the scheduled stallion becomes totally and permanently:

  • Impotent (unable to achieve intromission),
  • Infertile (sterile), or
  • Incapable of servicing mares (mounting, intromission, and ejaculating under normal stud practice).

The accident/injury/disability or illness/disease must occur during the endorsement term (and in certain cases up to 120 days after the end of a 365-day policy period), and be reported during the policy period.

What’s Not Covered

This endorsement does not apply to losses resulting (directly or indirectly) from the stallion’s:

  • Death
  • Theft
  • Authorized humane destruction
  • Wobbler Syndrome

(Those are handled—if at all—under other parts of the underlying policy, not this infertility coverage.)

How Losses Are Paid

  • The insurer pays the Limit of Liability shown in the Declarations for that stallion (for this endorsement) when a covered, permanent breeding disability is established.
  • If a claim is paid, the insured’s entire ownership interest in the stallion transfers to the insurer (salvage rights may include taking physical possession if the insured is the sole owner).
  • If a claim is paid, other insurance/endorsements on that stallion under the policy are automatically terminated unless otherwise provided.

Important Requirements

  • The stallion must be free from any breeding disability as of the endorsement effective date.
  • Provide immediate notice by phone of any indication of impotence/infertility/inability to service, including details and veterinarian contact information.
  • If there is a dispute about whether a covered event caused permanent breeding disability, it is determined by a 3-veterinarian panel (one chosen by each party, with a third agreed by the two).
  • Cooperate with ownership transfer/salvage steps after payment; failure can void coverage for that stallion and require repayment of amounts paid.
