$7,500 Medical Assistance Endorsement
The $7,500 Medical Assistance Endorsement adds medical reimbursement coverage to an Equine Mortality – Broad Form policy. It provides up to $7,500 per horse (aggregate) for eligible veterinary expenses, subject to a deductible and exclusions.
What’s Covered
Reimburses reasonable and customary veterinary fees for medical/surgical treatment and/or diagnostic testing by a qualified veterinarian when:
- The condition (accident/injury/lameness/physical disability/illness/disease) first occurs from the endorsement effective date through the end of the policy period, and
- Services occur during the policy period (and potentially up to 120 days after the end of a 365-day policy).
Key internal limits:
- Ulcers: only if confirmed by endoscopy; up to $500 for ulcer treatment/meds.
- Lameness: exams/diagnostics/treatment up to $3,500 combined per horse during the policy period.
What’s Not Covered
Common exclusions include:
- Pre-existing conditions (before the endorsement effective date).
- Certain deformities/congenital defects and related complications.
- Routine/preventive care, elective procedures, and many alternative/non-traditional treatments/therapies (including joint injections and similar items listed in the form).
- Losses tied to intentional harm/poisoning/gross negligence.
- Horses under 30 days or over 20 years old at endorsement effective date.
- Horses in race training/used for racing, or used for eventing.
- Certain expenses like transport, vet call/travel charges, report-prep fees, and non-qualifying hospitalization/boarding.
How Losses Are Paid
- Pays covered expenses up to $7,500 aggregate per horse.
- Deductible: $750 per separate, unrelated, non-recurring incident (if multiple deductibles apply, the highest deductible applies).
- No co-pay (removed under this endorsement).
- Generally applies excess over other valid collectible insurance/colic reimbursement programs.
- If a claim is paid, the $375 premium for that horse is considered fully earned and immediately due.
Medical Assistance coverage may also be combined with the $10,000 Surgical and / or the $10,000 Colic Treatment & Surgery coverages also offered by Great American.
