Did you know that most Equine Commercial Liability policies exclude coverage for death or injury to non-owned horses in your Care, Custody or Control? Berkley Equine & Cattle (StarNet) offers, for an additional premium, an Equine Care Custody or Control Endorsement as part of its Equine Commercial Liability Policy. Limits of liability are available up to $200,000 per animal and $500,000 maximum loss per policy period. This may cover you if you become legally obligated to pay for a loss caused by death, injury, or theft of any non-owned horse and/or destruction of tangible property by a non-owned horse in your Care, Custody or Control.
Below are a few scenarios where you could become Legally Obligated to pay for a loss:
A Non-Owned Horse in Your Care, Custody or Control is struck and killed by a vehicle after escaping from your paddock.
A Non-Owned Horse dies after an accident while being transported by you.
A Non-Owned Horse gets loose during Training by You and injures itself.
A fire in your barn destroys several Non-Owned Horses.
You may have to pay through your own means a loss resulting from one of the above scenario or one of the many other scenarios that occur through your equine operations without StarNet’s Equine Care, Custody or Control protection. If that happens, legal costs and expenses could be an additional burden. This coverage may also pay legal costs to defend any suit against you, subject to the policy limits, terms and conditions.
