Equine Mortality Coverage
Great American Insurance Company is the largest U.S.-based insurer of horses and horse-related risks in the United States. It’s also rated A+ (Superior) by A.M. Best Co., an independent rating agency that evaluates insurers on factors such as risk selection, portfolio strength, and financial stability.
Great American’s Full Mortality policy is an “all-risk” form designed to protect your investment if your horse dies due to injury, illness, transportation accidents, or humane destruction in the Continental US and Canada—and it also includes loss or death due to theft. If your insured horse dies, the policy pays the Agreed Value shown on your policy.
In addition, coverage includes:
- $5,000 Emergency Colic Surgery: Great American’s Full Mortality coverage includes up to $5,000 in reimbursement for reasonable and customary veterinary fees for colic surgery, when performed by a qualified veterinarian. This coverage is primary to any other collectible insurance, and the $5,000 limit applies per horse, per policy period.
- Guaranteed Renewal: Your Full Mortality policy is guaranteed to renew for 12 months at expiration. If your horse experienced an injury, illness, or disease during the expiring policy term, Great American will not reduce your Full Mortality limit at renewal—unless you request a lower limit.
